- To secure a signed Memorandum of Understanding with all parts of the Church with whom we will work over the coming year.
- To recruit appropriately experienced motivated, skilled staff to complete the central team and to enable the National Board to deliver their full remit.
- To produce further guidance to the Church on Safeguarding to address the needs of particular audiences such as children and young people, or responding to those against whom an allegation of abuse has been made.
- To support all parts of the Church in implementing the Safeguarding guidance as set out in the Safeguarding Children Standards and Guidance document
- To establish as part of the national safeguarding structure, a professional practice committee to provide high quality advice to Bishops, and leaders of congregations on matters pertaining to the management of alleged and known offenders within the Church.
- To establish and maintain a website for the National Board on which the Safeguarding Children Guidance will be available along with other material to support best practice within the Church.
- To provide guidance to the Church on the role of the Safeguarding Advisory Panels and to support a process of transition in establishing a sufficient number to fully meet the workload.
- To recommend and secure high quality training for the Church in line with the standards set out in the Safeguarding Guidance and which is sensitive to the differing needs of particular groups within the Church.
- To advise, develop, and support the provision of a range of services to meet the needs of victims of abuse irrespective of where they may reside within the island of Ireland.
- To facilitate the contribution of children and young people to establishing and maintaining safe environments for them within the Church through the creation of children and young people’s safeguarding advisory committees.
