The National Board has been contacted by a number of Church authorities who have recruited local safeguarding representatives but who have been unable to train them due to the ongoing pandemic.  As a result the National Board are offering to do this online in groups of 9 people on a date and time that suits the participants.

The training will focus on the role of the local representative including the local audit and assisting the parish priest or local superior with implementing effective safeguarding practice.  The training will be delivered online via Microsoft Teams in groups of up to 9 participants, and will be charged at 35 euro per person.  As training will be delivered online it is essential that each participant has access to a device with a camera and microphone.

Please note that this training is not a replacement for the full days training offered by safeguarding trainers registered with the National Board, all local representatives will still be required to attend this when training restarts following the health crisis.

As we manage to cope with the current health crisis, some of you might be considering ministry with children online.  It is important to be aware of and manage risks to children online.  The National Board has devised a 3 hour programme for Church bodies which seeks to:

  • Understand risks to children online
  • Prepare a plan to manage and mitigate those risks
  • Monitor how good safeguarding practice can be maintained online

This training will be delivered online and should be attended by a group of key safeguarding personnel from the same Church body, this group should include the Church authority, the Chair of the Safeguarding Committee, the DLP and any other relevant Church personnel who are currently ministering with children online, or considering this approach (group total cannot be any more than 9 people).  As the training will be delivered online, it is essential that each attendee has a device with a microphone and video camera.

Price for the training is 350 euro per group.
