GAP Paper 13: Child Safeguarding and Supervision by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland (NBSCCCI) is now live on our website.
This paper highlights the critical role of supervision in strengthening safeguarding practice within the life and ministry of the Church. This paper emphasises that supervision is not simply an administrative requirement, but a vital pastoral and theological responsibility that supports accountability, reflective practice, transparency, and the wellbeing of those engaged in ministry and safeguarding roles. In December 2025, the NBSCCCI made some editorial changes to Church safeguarding policy: A Safe and Welcoming Church Safeguarding Children Policy and Standards for the Catholic Church in Ireland 2024. This was to ensure that there was consistency throughout and that all criteria within Appendix D tables 3 & 4 were reflected in the main body of the policy document.
