A representative from the Registration and Enforcement at Tusla presented information on the importance of the Tusla Child Safeguarding Statement and ensuring compliance. Maria from Tusla was available to answer questions or clarify any issues relating to Child Safeguarding Statements.
Staff from the National Board presented new guidance on risk assessment.

The National Board hosted a short session with Sergeant James Gould (Jim) Anne-Marie Costello (Marissa) from the National Vetting Bureau. The purpose of this session was to enable you to clarify any matters relating to vetting.
This event was designed for personnel involved in the vetting process in the Republic of Ireland.

The National Board will host a short session with Superintendent Barry Walsh (National Protective Services Bureau). The purpose of this session is to introduce Superintendent Walsh to you and to enable you to clarify any matters relating to reporting allegations to the Gardai.

At the request of a number of Church authorities, this training day has been organised specifically for leaders of Church bodies across Ireland to induct them into their strategic role in relation to child safegaurding.
This training was previously faciliated in January 2020.
The day will cover a range of topics relating to safeguarding including:
- The strategic role of the Church authority in relation to safeguarding.
- Pastoral ministry and safeguarding.
- New developments in canon and civil law.
Please note if you have already attended this training previously you do not need to attend again.

The National Board endeavours to meet representatives of dioceses and religious congregations on an annual basis through Ecclesiastical Provincial Area meetings, to share information on developments in child safeguarding and to receive comments on issues and practices, which may require further guidance. While this year is extraordinary, as we are dealing with a health pandemic, we would still like to conduct this meeting for the Armagh ecclesiastical provincial area through the electronic platform Zoom.
This year the National Board will provide information on:
- Current workload and projects underway in the National Board.
- Updates to and revision of Guidance and requirements following the CDF Vademecum.
- Training plans for remainder of 2020 and 2021.
- Risk assessments.
- Reviews of child safeguarding practice.
- Children First Child Safeguarding statements.
- Changes to criminal law and changes of Garda personnel.
